Overview of the Academic Gameplan DVDs
The Four Quarters of the Game of School
The Academic Gameplan program includes four entertaining DVDs
that represent the seminar/training portion of the program. The DVD
material was shot at 82 locations and is divided into four quarters that
teach effective techniques and fundamentals in a way that make learning
more enjoyable for the student.
DVD #1:
WHY SCHOOL?
The opening quarter of the Academic Gameplan is devoted to answering
the question "Why School?" Why are we in school and what is
the role of school? Having a big enough "WHY" is the first
key to true motivation. This quarter introduces each student to the
concept of "school as a game". Like every game, school has
rules, fundamentals and techniques and we begin to establish what they
are in this game we call "school." Note taking is the technique
we teach in the first quarter. We also help each student identify their
own beliefs about school and how these beliefs are the driving force
behind their attitude and behavior.
DVD #2:
THE ATTITUDE QUARTER
In education, attitude is essential to success. This quarter focuses
on attitude development and elimination of excuses often used by non-performers.
It's proven: as attitude improves, performance improves. And performance
is the bottom line. This quarter is based on two attitude building blocks:
The Magic of Why and the Power of How.
DVD #3:
THE ACADEMIC BAT
Execution is the key to winning, hence the saying "It's not the
bat, it's how you use it." In the third quarter, we teach each
student how to use the academic bat; in other words, use the supplies
and academic techniques necessary to be competitive. The Academic Bat
is the term that describes our Student Package which consists of the
Academic Gameplan binder and organizational materials. This binder is
the essential piece of equipment in the game of school. It includes
the finest school supplies to form a comprehensive system second-to-none.
DVD #4:
WINNING SITUATIONS
In sports, you don't try to win the game. You win the situations that
win the game. The fourth quarter is devoted to teaching the six basic
situations that repeat themselves in nearly every class, every semester,
and every year. This situational approach to winning enables the student
to anticipate critical academic situations and effectively handle them
as they occur.
